Our 3 year old daughter - Trena is enthralled with the lambs this year. It is so fun to take her out to the barn.

White ram lamb

He is out of one of my best fleeced ewes. As a wether his bright white wool would be a delightful addition to a spinner's flock.

This tall pretty girl looks like she got into the flour bin as her gray pattern is growing in. She carries moorit and is a granddaughter of the Iceland ram Vestri. From her sire's side she has genetics from Iceland  rams Dalur, Asker and Hunn. This ewe lamb will make a nice addition to your flock.

Our first lambs have arrived April 6, 2005.

My first trip out to the barn in the morning found Maggie in the barn with twin lambs already standing but still damp. The big surprise was to find them both spotted - one boy and one girl and as cute as buttons.

Our second set of twins arrived at 11 pm on April 6. On my last check of the day out at the barn I found Iselle just starting labor. The majority of icelandic lambs are born during day light so I wasn't expecting to find a ewe in labor. I was able to watch them being born - both boys - one black spotted and one white lamb.

April 7 - I came home from work to find Nikki with her still wet lamb standing in the barn. He is a very large boy. It doesn't look like he has the gray pattern from his mom but we won't know for sure for a couple weeks as the under coat grows in.

How many babies inside????? Wanna make a guess???

The picture on the left is Mayzie this year. She looks very uncomfortable - poor girl. The picture on the right is Mayzie last year shortly before having her twins. I wonder if she has 3 lambs growing in that big belly this year. Hopefully we will know in the next day or so.
Update: Mayzie has finally lambed on April 8 and she did only have 2 lambs in that big belly of hers. Two healthy girls so we are very happy. One spotted moorit and one solid moorit.

Susie Q surprised us with twins this year on April 9 - a beautiful sunny 65 degree day. I was guessing she was going to have a single. I found her in the back corner of the pasture with a little moorit ram lamb and brought both of them into the barn in their own stall. I checked back a little later to find two lambs in her stall. She also had little ewe lamb - smaller then the ram lamb but very healthy. Two solid moorit lambs.

We found Carmel out with her new lamb in the pasture Thursday afternoon - April 14,2005. A tiny spotted moorit ram lamb. Carmel is being a very good first time mom. This little boy has about the cutest markings I have seen yet.

On my first trip out to the barn Saturday morning - April 16, 2005 I found Maple with twin lambs. Already standing and dry at 7 am. One girl and one boy. The girl is a black gray - you can see the classic 'sugar lips' on the newborns and often times there are white or gray hairs in the ears. As this girl's under coat grows in her gray pattern will become more apparent. The little boy inherited Maple's mouflon pattern. He is a cutie.

2004 Lamb Arrivals

take a look at last years excitement

Bellies are getting big and the excitement is building.

Finally Lambs are here

We finally had our first lamb born on March 21, 2004. I found Lizzy in the barn with her still wet lamb standing by her side at 7:30 Sunday morning. She is a first time mom and is doing wonderfully with her very nice black ram lamb. This picture below is when baby is one week old and growing like a weed.

Lizzy's lamb is growing well - this picture below was taken April 5.

On Friday, April 2 Pansy gave us a beautiful ewe lamb with very cute markings very similar to her own with a brown patch over each eye. This picture was taken when she is 3 days old and mom is carefully watching over her lamb on her first day out of the jug.

Here are some close up views of her pretty face. You can see her badgerface pattern in the two tones of brown on her face.

Saturday, April 3 was a very busy day here with 5 lambs arriving.

Daisy delivered two white lambs - one ram and one ewe. This picture below you can see each lamb catching a meal at the same time.

This is a little cuter view of these lambs.

Iselle also gave us twins - one ram lamb and one ewe lamb. Her ewe lamb was very very small and weak and seemed premature. The first day I helped her nurse every two hours but was concerned that she wouldn't make it. Her second day her belly was round and full each time I checked and I saw her nursing on her own a few times. But unfortunately we lost her the next morning. Iselle was so quiet and gentle with this little girl I am very happy she still has her little boy who is strong and healthy.

Nikki ended the excitement for the day with her nice size ram lamb. This is her first lamb since she didn't lamb her first year as a ewe lamb. She is being a very good mother and her lamb is growing already. You can see the "frosting" on the lamb's ears and lips. This tells me this guy will be a gray moorit which will be shown when his undercoat grows in.

Sunday, April 4 we have two more sets of twins.

Mayzie delivered two ram lambs. One moorit and one spotted moorit lamb.

Mayzie's spotted moorit lamb has some neat markings as you can see in this picture below. The tip of his tail is white.

Here are the boys catching a rest while mom eats.

Melly also gave us twins that evening. Two ewe lambs one white and one black. Her black lamb was especially exciting. All Melly's lambs have been white before this year and with her breeding it was possible that she was homozygous for white. This means she would always give white lambs. With her having this black ewe lamb I now know that Melly does carry color.

Missy - our black spotted ewe who was bred to JJ delivered a spotted moorit ram lamb on April 7. She is being a very attentive first time mother. The picture on the left was taken with in minutes of birth. Mom has just started cleaning her lamb. The picture on the right is at one day old.

Here is Missy's little guy taking a nap in the feed bucket.

Everyone loves the ant hill. I usually find a lamb curled up on top of this ant hill every time I go out to check on everyone. I finally caught Nikki's ram lamb on film with Melly's twin girls napping nearby.

Maple had a ewe lamb Thursday morning, April 15. Maple is a gray mouflon and I am very happy to have a black mouflon ewe lamb from her. Mouflon is my favorite pattern. Maple is a very good first time mother and very protective and her lamb is healthy and spunky. sold

Susie Q had her solid moorit ewe lamb Saturday morning - May 1st. She is a spunky little lamb and mother is very attentive. The picture on the left is when she is about an hour old. The picture on the right is at 2 weeks. She is growing well.
